Innowalk
Innowalk is a modern medical device which allows physically disabled patients to stand and walk in a pattern which is very similar to the physiological one. Thanks to Innowalk, children who have never been able to walk by themselves, can experience the correct walking pattern and maintain a gait reflex.
Innowalk is recommended for children and adults with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, after strokes and accidents and with other problems of the nervous system. Walking also allows for the proper blood circulation and proper functioning of the digestive system. Thus, in children at the 4th and 5th level of GMFCS the functioning of these systems is considerably less efficient.
The therapy consists in making the patient assume erect position and walk in a robot which enforces alternate gait. The therapist sets the speed and resistance during the training. The correct positioning and the full load of the feet maintain mobility of joints, stimulate alternation and activate all muscles necessary for walking. Such a steady, alternate walking movement, performed within a given time limit and in the correct position of the body, stimulates cortical centres in the brain, imprinting the correct walking pattern.
